Reminders from the Fleet!

2010 Race Registration for all “Basin” clubs will be held at  CBYC on Wednesday April 14, 2010 at 1900 HRS sharp. This will be followed by a very important Skippers Meeting at 2000 HRS.

DO NOT MISS THIS! Lots of new things to make our race experience even better than before.

Racing Rules of Sailing Seminar

Highland Yacht Club has once again organized a Racing Rules of Sailing Seminar, presented by  UK-Halsey of Toronto .
Time & Location: HYC clubhouse on Monday March 22/10 at 7:30pm sharp.

Cost….FREE with an optional small donation to be forwarded to a local sailing charity. All welcome, Skippers, Crew, and Friends.

Racing is fun, but racing has rules. Knowledge of those makes racing far more enjoyable for everyone. Join in and learn some of the rules the easy way. This will be different from last year’s session, with not as much focus on the new rule changes, but detailed attention to the rules we encounter most.

The agenda is as follows…

  1. We will quickly review the basics as a refresher.
  2. We will focus on rules at the Start, and rules at Mark Rounding’s, this will be an in-depth discussion.
  3. We will have a presentation using animations for situations encountered throughout a race.
  4. Open floor discussion and question period.
  5. Everyone in attendance will receive a fully illustrated 36-question quiz to take with you, guaranteed to stir up debate. What you thought you knew, and believed to be correct.

Weather Seminar

Ron Bianchi, Past V.P. of Meteorology for The Weather Network will be presenting a 3 session Weather Seminar at CBYC.   Cost: $30. (For All 3 Sessions)

We will be covering some of the topics listed below.

  • Basic Introduction to Meteorology for the Mariner
  • Cloud Identification for Mariners
  • Understanding Weather Maps for the Mariner
  • Weather Radar and Satellite Images for the Mariner
  • Understanding Basic Wind Strategy for Racer’s
